Myles Garrison added a page to the sports history book at Priceville High School on Tuesday by signing a letter of intent to play football for Birmingham-Southern College, a first for the Bulldog program.

The 5-10, 245-pound senior offensive tackle is a four-year letterman and has a 3.63 grade point average. While his entire high school gridiron career has been focused on offense, Garrison said he may get a chance to try his hand on defense when he arrives on the BSC campus in August.

Garrison signed his scholarhsip on Tuesday in the company of his teammates, coaches and family members.

“This is truly a dream come true,” said Garrison. “I like everything about Birmingham-Southern and I’m tremendously blessed to be going there to study and extend my football career.”

Head coach Dirk Strunk said he has no doubt about Garrison’s ability to play at the next level.

“He did everything we asked him to do as a senior,” Strunk said. “He’s a smart kid who quickly picked up the system we put in and was instrumental in leading others. I look forward to going down and watching him play.

“Kyle’s signing is big for our football program,” Strunk added. “His success is proof that if you set high goals and work hard, you can expect good things to happen. Hopefully, this will open doors for other kids playing behind him.”

Birmingham Southern is a Division III school and a member of the Southern Athletic Conference. Its football team had an 8-2 record in 2011.

“We’re excited about Myles becoming a member of the BSC family,” said Sydney Hawk, assistant director of admissions. “He is a fine young man with good character, above average grades and impressive athletic skill. He models the kind of student we’re striving to recruit to our campus.

Garrison’s parents are Jerome and Tassie Garrison of Priceville. He plans to study for a career in physical therapy.
