Brewer finishes 3rd at Big Blue Classic, Hartselle 6th

The Patriots finished in third place at the Brewer High School Big Blue Classic this past weekend, with Brewer defeating East Limestone in the third-place game Friday evening. Hartselle finished in sixth place following a loss in a consolation game to Baldwin County.
Russellville was the champion of the tournament, defeating Guntersville 70-59 in the final.
Friday night games
Brewer boys 80, East Limestone boys 72
The Patriots took third place at Brewer's Big Blue Classic with their win over East Limestone.
Rusty Boyd led the way for Brewer (7-9) with 18 points, followed by Kohl Sowder with 14, Rodney Childs with 12 and Jeremy Widener with 11.
Marvin Baker scored a game-high 20 points for East Limestone.
Baldwin County boys 75, Hartselle boys 64
The Tigers finished in sixth at the Big Blue Classic with their loss Friday evening.
Hartselle (9-9) was led by Tyler Young's 14-point performance, while Jackson Holmes added 11.
Ronnie Starker had 19 points to lead Baldwin County.
Thursday night games
Russellville boys 51, Brewer boys 46
The Patriots played strong for most of the game against No. 7-ranked Class 5A Russellville, leading at the end of each of the first three quarters.
Brewer (6-9) lost the lead in the fourth quarter, but trailed just 47-46 with 54 seconds remaining in the game. The Patriots couldn't get their shots to fall, however, and Russellville was 4-of-4 from the free throw line as the Golden Tigers held on to advance at the Brewer Big Blue Classic last Thursday evening.
Chris Humphries finished with 13 points to lead Brewer, followed by Rusty Boyd with 10. Russellville was led by Jermaine Bates' 17 points.
Hartselle boys 74, Lawrence County boys 70 (OT)
The Tigers won an overtime game in the consolation bracket at Brewer's Big Blue Classic. Jackson Holmes led the way for Hartselle (9-8) with 19 points, followed by Luke Bole with 13 and Alex Brown with nine.
Myles King had 24 points to lead Lawrence County in the loss.
Dec. 27 games
Brewer boys 71, Columbia boys 50
The Patriots opened the Big Blue Classic with a dominating win over Columbia. Alex Brown led Brewer in scoring with 20 points, followed by Rusty Boyd with 19 and Kyle Bowling with 10.
Columbia was led by Jared Johnson's 13 points.
East Limestone boys 61, Hartselle boys 58
The Tigers lost in a squeaker at opening-round action of the Brewer Big Blue Classic. Hartselle was led by Jackson Holmes' 23 points. Alex Brown added eight and Victor Stansberry finished with seven.
East Limestone's Jared Laxson had 19 to lead the victors.
