Oct. 26, 1956 —The Russellville Tigers, consistent high performers this season, easily defeated a weak but combative Hartselle team here tonight by the score of 33-7. Karl Estes, Tiger great all year, scored the only Hartselle touchdown. David McElroy scooted in for the extra point.
Oct. 27, 1956 —Andrew Oden of Hartselle has appealed to the Morgan County Board of Revenue for funds to keep the federal surplus food program in operation.
Mr. Oden says there are about 4,500 rural residents in Morgan County currently receiving free food who would go hungry were it not for this program.
Oct. 27, 1956 —Troop 92 of the Hartselle Boy Scouts excelled in field day exercises this morning. They won first place in knot tying, cooking, and the sack race.
Oct. 28, 1956 —Morgan County Agent L. T. Wagnon of Hartselle was recently in Houston, Texas, where he attended the National Association of County Agents Convention.
Oct. 29, 1956 —Mack Dye and Eddie Craft have bought the used car lot across the street from the post office from Spec Speake.
Oct. 30, 1956 —Festive homecoming activities are high on the agenda for tomorrow night when the MCHS eleven play host to the Arabian Knights. Coach Tony Daniel’s squad is seeking its second win of the season, having lost four and tied one.
Oct. 31, 1956 —This Halloween night was definitely not a spooky one for the MCHS football Tigers. Even though the game ended in a 7-7 tie with the Arabian Knights, it was still a “moral” victory for the home team and possibly an indication of more positive outings ahead. The point man for Hartselle was Karl Estes, the 160-pound fullback, who scored a 22-yard TD in the second quarter.
Nov. 1, 1956 —Many from Hartselle were in Decatur tonight for a big Wally Fowler all-night singing. Featured performers were Ace Richman and the Sunshine Boys, Hovie Lister and the Statesmen, Fred C. Maples and the Harmoneers, and Jackie Marshall and the Blackwood Brothers quartet.
Nov. 1, 1956 —The MCHS Tigers suffered another serious setback this week when it was learned that star left tackle Tommy Ed Roberts will see no more action this season. Young Roberts suffered a recurrence of an old knee injury that that had originally sidelined him in the Athens game. He must stay off his leg for a week, and after that it will be put in a cast. His physician hopes that the cast will correct the trouble and that an operation will not be necessary.
