The cost of making repairs and improvements to four of the six tennis courts at Hartselle Junior High School is going to be more than what was anticipated.
School board members learned of the increased cost at a regular meeting on Oct. 9.
The cost to renovate the courts in the school system’s five-year capital improvement plan is estimated at $30,000.
Dukes also suggested that the board might want to talk with city officials about the resurfacing of the parking lot at J. P. Cain Stadium.
Young stressed the need to make repairs and improvements on the courts before winter.
The paving project isn’t the only capital improvement on board member’s minds.
Board member Jeff Gray asked for a report on the proposed air conditioning of the gymnasium at Hartselle Junior High School.
Principal Don Pouncey said he has talked with two air conditioning and heating firms about the project since the board’s last meeting.
In other board action:
Field trips were approved for two elementary school classes. Burleson’s fifth grade was authorized to make a trip to Ruby Falls in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Oct. 27 and Crestline’s fourth grade was granted permission to make a trip to the Tennessee Aquarium on Nov. 4.
The board acted on personnel items as follows:

  • Approved the employment of Holly Williams, nine-month custodian at Barkley Bridge Elementary, retroactive to Sept. 26 and Gilbert Swann, custodian at Hartselle High, effective Dec. 4, as well as Extended Day Program staff members, Patty Andrews, Sandra Jones, Debra Berry, Dan Bennich, Wendy Clemons, Imelda Fisher, Maureen Matson, Toni Nicholson, John Mark Waynick, Kim Agee, Heather Murphy, Shane Owens, Jessie Wimberly, Kandice Gibson, Rhonda McKissack and Marcy Voss.
