Neel Senior Center hosts Valentine’s Day program

Neel Senior Center hosted a Valentine’s Day program and a special singing on Tuesday, Feb.14, with activities starting at 9 a.m. and concluding at 1 p.m. Guest singers were Stephan Hannah and Joshua Sivley from Madison.

The Senior Center is open to anyone age 60 and above. Some of the activities offered are various board games, puzzles, music and good fellowship

.Those attending on Valentine’s Day also enjoyed lots of good food.

Martha Jackson, Rachel Slate, Marc Allen Slate and Bob and Sandy Hughes all enjoyed attending a special program hosted by the Alabama Accordionists Association on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Bluff Park United Methodist Church in Birmingham.

The program included music by the Alabama Accordionists Associa-tion Orchestra and a special tango dance performed by Sara Alvarez and Roswell Pfister with music by accordionist Jim Wadowick.

Special music and folk songs were presented by Alla Melnik Mulvehill and Naum Koyfman who are originally from the Ukraine.

Guest accordionists for the program were World Digital Accordion Champion Coupe Mon-diale and World Acoustic Accordion Champion Primus Ikaalinen Cory Pesaturo. Pesaturo is a graduate of the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston MA. where he was the first musician to major and graduate in the accordion.

He performed at the White House for President and Mrs. Clinton on four different occasions and on one of those occasions, he became the youngest person ever to perform at a State Dinner. Everyone attending really enjoyed the program,.

Belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Jimmie and Mildred Lake who celebrated their 46th anniversary on Feb. 4, Dale and Hannah Burch who celebrated their first anniversary on Feb.5, Macky and Evon Vest who observed their 41st anniversary and Virgil and Jane Vest who observed their 41st anniversary, both on Feb. 6 and Harvey and Pat McCleskey who observed their 16th anniversary on Feb. 14..

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Evelyn Vest on Feb. 6 and Phillip Alexander on Feb.12.
