Three convenience stores raided in spice roundup

Two men were arrested during a crackdown of illegal spice at three Morgan County convenience stores Wednesday.

The businesses raided were Sam’s located at Old Moulton Road and Modaus Road in Decatur, Spirit located at East Main Street and Railroad Street in Hartselle and Jet Pep located at Highway 67 and Highway 36 East in Somerville.

The Morgan County Drug Task Force and the Alabama ABC Police conducted three separate search warrants at the businesses after receiving numerous complaints and a lengthy investigation.

Agents were able to determine that these convenience stores were selling spice or synthetic cannabinoids, which are now illegal in Alabama. Agents seized a large quantity of spice, cash and guns from the stores.

Arrested were:

• Esam Mahdi Al Hubishi, 36, of Huntsville was charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $2,500.

• Sadek Saleh, 30 of Hamtramck, Mich., was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He’s being held on a $2,500 bond.
