Falkville High School’s Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils both avenged earlier road losses by racking up impressive wins against the Cleveland Panthers and Lady Panthers on their home court Friday night.

The Blue Devils came out on top by a score of 60-51 and improved their record to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in area competition. It also removed some of the sting of an 11-point loss to the Panthers earlier in the season. A win against Westminster would clinch second place in the area for Falkville.

In the girl’s game, the Lady Blue Devils pulled off a 45-37 win after losing to the Lady Panthers by 16 points earlier in the season. They were ahead 7-6 after one quarter, 18-14 at halftime and 27-20 heading into the final quarter.

The win was the Lady Blue Devils first against an area opponent this season and their third win against eight losses overall.

“We did a good job of taking care of the ball and playing defense,” said Blue Devils head coach Yancey Randolph. “It’s a good win for us because it keeps us in the running to finish second in the area.”

Leading Falkville in scoring was Austin Wiley with 26 points. He was followed by Travis Davis who dropped in 16 points.

Joshua Fallin paced the losers with 13 points and Emanuel Terry and Steven Standridge each had 10 points.

Lady Blue Devils head coach Jeff Andrews complimented his players for their winning performance.

“Our girls played harder in this game than they have all year and it paid off,” he said. “They did a good job of rebounding and playing defense. Getting an area win is big for us.”

Sydney Moore paced the Lady Blue Devils in scoring with 13 points. Elizabeth Davis had 10 points and Allie Cooper and Amanda Muse each scored nine points.

Leandra Glass led Cleveland with 17 points.
