Lady Patriots still unbeaten

Brewer’s Lady Patriots extended their unbeaten season to 12 games as they held off Hartselle’s Lady Tigers 60-51 in a hard-fought Area 13 battle at Randolph Ryan Gym Friday night.

The Lady Patriots never trailed in the game, leading 13-9 after one period, 30-25 at halftime and 48-35 after three periods of play.

They dominated Hartselle under the boards with a 42-21 rebounding edge and had a 29-12 scoring edge at the free throw line.

“We had to change our philosophy on offense because Hartselle was not giving us open shots from the perimeter,” said Brewer coach Ricky Allen. “Fortunately we were able to get the ball inside and get some open looks.

“You have to give Hartselle and their coaches credit, however. They played hard from start to finish,”Allen added.

Riley Northway paced the Lady Patriots with 14 points while Mallory Drinkard scored 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds and Rheagan Hormel added 12 points and had three steals and two assists. Savanna Flack had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Quanesha Burks was high scorer for the Lady Tigers with 17 points. She also had five rebounds, three assists and seven steals.
