Hartselle Unit going to Iraq
Hartselle's Military Police Company has received mobilization orders and is headed to Iraq.
The Alabama National Guard announced the orders Wednesday. The Hartselle group is one of three Army National Guard Units receiving orders. The three units represent some 585 soldiers.
Hartselle's 152nd Military Police Company will mobilize in late June. The unit is comprised of some 150 people and is one of the newest units in the Alabama guard.
The soldiers will undergo additional training before being deployed to Iraq. They are expected to be in Iraq for at least a year.
The other activated units are the 1st Battalion 131st Aviation Unit from Hope Hull, Mobile and Birmingham and the 226th Area Support Group of Mobile. It's the Mobile unit's second call to active duty since 2003 and the third such call-up since 1990.
Alabama currently has some 11,500 Army and Air Guard personnel serving in war zones in Afghanistan and Iraq.
A deployment ceremony will be held for the Hartselle soldiers before they leave.
The schedule for that ceremony has not been set.
