A memorial service for Jerry Daniel Byford, 58, of Hartselle was Wed., Nov. 30, at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Patsy Carlburg officiating.

Burial was in Forrest Chapel UMC Cemetery.

Mr. Byford died Sun., Nov. 27, 2011, at his residence. He was born Sept. 18, 1953, in Hartselle to the late Hewlett Andrew Byford and Lois Adell Byford. He received his Masters degree from The University of Alabama and was the recipient of many awards and honors for his writing and poetry. He was an English teacher and writing lab instructor at Calhoun Community College where he enjoyed spending time with his students and co-workers. He was a member of Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church and was loved by many.

He is survived by a son, Jacob Byford of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Cara Dawn Jones and husband Jim of Atlanta; his mother, Lois Adell Byford of Hartselle; a grandson, James Daniel Byford; two sisters, Pat Byford and Alecia Shipp and husband Guy; a brother, Wayne Byford and wife Kim; a number of nieces, nephews and great-nephews; and many friends.

Friends were pallbearers.
