Tigers take 9th at Ravenwood Invitational Tournament

The Tigers finished ninth of 21 teams at the Raptor Invitational in Brentwood, Tenn., last weekend. Hartselle's Andrew Watson finished in second place in the 152-pound division and was the Tigers' highest individual finisher.
Jake Watkins finished third in the 171-pound division and Brad Eubanks placed third in the heavyweight division. Both wrestlers finished with 4-1 records. In the 103-pound division, Jacob Watson finished in fourth place with a 3-2 mark. Dallas Kalber also finished 3-2 and took fourth in the 160-pound weight class.
In the 119-pound weight class, Rico Elliott finished with a 3-1 record. In the 140-pound division, Caleb Blanton finished with a 3-2 mark.
Hartselle competes at the Grissom Duals in Huntsville Saturday.
Previous match results
Hartselle finished with a 1-2 mark at the Arab Tri-Meet Jan. 5. The Tigers defeated Gadsden 75-6 (with Gadsden forfeiting 11 matches) and lost to Arab 39-32 and Pinson Valley 42-39.
In the 114-pound division Kyle Davis finished 3-0; Elliott was 3-0 at 121 pounds; Blanton was 3-0 in the 142-pound division; Andrew Watson was 3-0 in the 154-pound division; Ethan Hamilton was 3-0 at 191 pounds and Brad Eubanks finished 3-0 in the heavyweight division. Watkins won all three of his matches by pin.
At the Tuscaloosa County Duals Dec. 23, Hartselle finished 3-2 and third of 12 teams. The Tigers defeated Team X (comprised of wrestlers from several different schools and created to fill out the bracket) 45-30, American Christian 50-18 and Sparkman 54-24. Hartselle fell to Bremen (Ga.) 57-24 and Hewitt-Trussville 61-16.
Eubanks, Watson and Blanton each finished 5-0. Elliott finished 4-1, losing 7-5 in his only loss at the tournament.
Hartselle was 1-1 at the Bob Jones tri-meet Dec. 20, falling to host Bob Jones 47-26 and defeating Gadsden 63-3. Against Bob Jones, Kalber, Watkins and Eubanks both won by pin and Watson won by points, 14-3.
Junior varsity update
The Hartselle junior varsity performed well at the Hartselle Invitational at the Pettey Center Jan. 7. The Tigers' Steven Hames won the heavyweight championship in the last second of a double-overtime match.
Chase Overton took second place in the 105-pound division and Brandon Kent finished second in the 177-pound division.
Kenneth Sammons was the third-place finisher in the 154-pound weight class. Garrett Baldwin took fourth in the heavyweight division and Alan Durham also was a fourth-place finisher in the 105-pound division.
