Funeral for Dixie M. McClure, 93, of Somerville will be Sun., Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Ryan Childers officiating.
Visitation will be Sun. Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be the historic Somerville Cemetery,
Mrs. McClure died Mon., Oct. 31, 2011, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born July 12, 1918, to Hathro Bascom Maples and Frances T. Cora Clark Maples and was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard W. McClure; two sons, Coy and Roy McClure; a daughter, Frances Floyd; four brothers, Conard, Howard, Huie and Guy Maples; and three sisters, Parthenia Hendrix, Dimple King and Corene Beam.
She loved her family and was affectionately called “Miss Dixie” by so many of her friends. She not only worked as a homemaker raising four children, she worked as an Avon agent, an employee of United Stage Equipment, drove a school bus, was a foster parent for Morgan County Schools and worked as an aide at Summerford Nursing Home. She had a passion for quilt making and finished her last one two weeks before her death. She is survived by two sons, Donald McClure of Decatur and Rodger McClure and wife Judy of Somerville; a daughter, Pat Baxter and husband Jim of Baileyton; a sister, Louise Kennedy of Huntsville; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
The family thanks the entire staff at Summerford Nursing Home for the care and attention they gave to Dixie and respectfully request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to S.A.V.E.S.
