Junior Cotillion celebrates island style

By Staff
The kickoff for the Premi/re/High School program of the National League of Junior Cotillions Tennessee Valley Chapter was held on a recent Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Ellis.
The "Summer Ice Breaker, Island Style" was an afternoon and evening of members getting to know one another, as they are a mix of freshmen through sophomores from all area schools. Of course, there was etiquette instruction, a barbecue luau, a couple of get-to-know-you games, swimming and dancing.
Seen sporting Hawaiian leis and dancing among the palm trees and tiki torches were members Mary Carol Coleman, Caitlin Vest, Hannah Lackey, Brittany Woodall, Mary-Sidney Ritch, Abigail Ritch, Anna Walraven, Katherine Puckett, Hastings Caradine, Amanda Mayfield, Carrie Coxwell, Eliza Fite, Meg Adams, Mary Zingarelli, Anna Laura Bryan, Greg Frazier, Earl Ellis, Jake Wooley, Arthur Peck, Jud Stephenson, Jake Hubbard, Jonathan Brannon, B.J. Thomas, Cline Thompson, Michael Alfano, Micah Jordan, Michael Reed, Wes Chenault, Tyler Young, Aaron Burleson, Bo Godwin, Trent Downs, Kyle Williams, Caroline Woller, JoAnne Nabors and Claire Walker.
Chaperones for the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Emory Ellis, Mrs. Paul Lackey, Mrs. Rip Nabors, Mrs. Paul Downs, Mrs. John Zingarelli and Mrs. William Puckett.
Several members were unable to attend due to championship baseball games and family vacations.
"They'll have a lot of catching up to do with all the swing/shag dance steps we learned when we meet again this fall," Director Laura Ritch of Hartselle said. "But that shouldn't be a problem–they catch on quickly. There are some super dancers out there playing baseball! We do have a few more spaces left for gentlemen in this high school cotillion program, but not many."
If your son is a leader who plans to be active in his community as a vital part of society as an adult, Ritch said he needs to learn and be able to practice the skills this program teaches.
"I want the young men of Morgan County to be known as strong, honorable gentlemen of sterling character," Ritch said.
For more information, call Ritch at 751-0987. The opportunity for membership consideration will close at the end of August.
