Falkville wins five straight

Falkville is moving closer to the goal of a berth in the state baseball playoffs. Area wins over Lexington and Tanner last week were part of a five-game winning streak for the Blue Devils.
Falkville 7, Lexington 4
Ryan Summerford picked up the win with 1 1/3 shutout innings of relief. Brad Vest started and allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings followed by Todd Russell who pitched one inning.
Summerford followed Russell and benefited from the Blue Devils rally in the final two innings of play.
Falkville trailed 4-3 entering the sixth inning and tied the game at four all. In the seventh inning, the Blue Devils pushed across three runs to secure the win.
Ross Summerford was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jeff Grandstaff went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Kevin Russell, Brad Vest and Todd Russell all went 1-for-3. Todd Russell scored twice, as did Jonathan Lacey, who was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Ryan Summerford scored one run after getting aboard with a walk.
Falkville 14, Butler 4
The Blue Devils improved to 9-8 on the year with a five-inning rout of Butler.
Ross Summerford was the winning pitcher for the second straight game with 2 2/3 innings of one-hit relief.
Summerford went 3-for-3 at the plate with four runs scored and one RBI. Brother Ryan was 1-for-4 with three walks and scored four times. Jeff Grandstaff went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Bobby Holiday had two hits and two RBIs, while Todd Russell had one hit and scored twice. Kevin Russell collected one hit and one RBI.
Falkville 6, New Hope 2
Kevin Russell was the winning pitcher for the Blue Devils with one inning of relief.
Ross Summerford led the Falkville offense with a 3-for-3 day with one run scored.
Jonathan Lacey, Jeff Grandstaff, Bobby Holiday and Kevin Russell all had one hit and scored one run. Zack Ferrell scored once after reaching base on a walk. All six Falkville runs were unearned.
Falkville 10, Tanner 5
Brad Vest improved to 4-4 on the mound with a nine-strikeout performance. Vest pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing nine hits and four runs.
Bobby Holiday went 2-for-3 with a double with one RBI and one run scored. Jonathan Lacey went 2-for-4 including a double and a triple while scoring one run and driving in three. Ryan Summerford had two hits and scored twice while brother Ross walked twice and scored both times.
Zack Ferrell was 2-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI while Kevin Russell had one hit and scored once.
The Blue Devils are now 11-8 overall and 5-2 in area play.
