A look back

Researched by Dr. Bill Stewart
Recently a proposal has been made to elect members of the Hartselle city council on the basis of staggered terms rather than having all officials chosen simultaneously. These items relate to individuals who have served on or for the council in years past.
1930 – October 16, Councilman Fred M. Speake is devoting considerable time to trying to solve Hartselle's water problems, aggravated by the drought of the summer season. He is working with the state Public Service Commission to get additional water supplies.
1936 – October 17, Van Pattillo and Ratliff Hardwick are the two new members of the Hartselle city council. They join three other community-minded men who were endorsed by the voters for another term, R. L. Sherrill, Tom Stewart, and Louie Houston.
1932 – October 18, The newly installed Hartselle city council has made several appointments. These include William Stewart, city clerk; James Rodgers, police chief; W. H. Clements, sanitary inspector; and Edgar Crane, water works superintendent.
1954 – October 19, The city council is trying to identify ways to increase Mayor Burleson
