Lady Tigers sweep season series with Austin

HARTSELLE – The Hartselle Lady Tigers earned a season sweep over Austin with a 55-41 win before falling 58-36 to Mountain Brook later in the week.

Hartselle 55, Austin 41

The Lady Tigers (7-4) played short-handed in their 55-41 win over Austin.

The game was tied 14-14 after the first quarter. However, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Black Bears 35-11 over the second and third quarters to pull away for the victory.

Sophie Estep scored a career-high 17 points in her first career start to lead Hartselle. She also had a career-high seven rebounds.

Gracie Hill added 15 points and five steals for the Lady Tigers, while Karleigh Shipley scored nine points and had three assists and three steals.

Arianna Harris had 14 points for Austin, while Lauryn Birt and Fakhira Lyle added nine points each.

Mountain Brook 58, Hartselle 36

Hartselle fell 58-36 to visiting Mountain Brook this past Friday. The Spartans raced out to a 20-4 first-quarter lead from which the Lady Tigers couldn’t bounce back.

The Lady Spartans shot 12-of-18 from inside the three-point line and 11-of-25 from beyond the arc in the win. The Lady Tigers were held to 11-of-32 inside the arc and only 2-of-11 outside.

Hill finished with 13 points to lead Hartselle. Mary France Itsede had eight points and five rebounds, while Hannah Burks added seven points and three steals.
