Two arrested on trafficking, possession charges

Special to the Enquirer

April 14, agents with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit and investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle between Hartselle and Decatur on Highway 31.

During the traffic stop, it was discovered that the passenger, Bridgette Leanne Berry, 40, of Hartselle, was wanted on a felony warrant with an agency in Georgia. During the course of the traffic stop, law enforcement located drug paraphernalia items possessed by the driver, Summer Christina Shipley, 39, of Hartselle. After conducting the investigation, Shipley was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia and Berry was arrested on the outstanding warrant. They were both transported to the Morgan County Jail. Upon arrival, corrections staff located more than a gram of a white, powder substance concealed within Shipley’s person. Agents later determined that the substance found on Shipley was fentanyl and obtained an additional trafficking warrant for her arrest. April 27, deputies located and arrested Shipley at a home in Decatur. She was transported to and booked into the Morgan County Jail in lieu of 10,000 bond.
