Title: “The Half Sister”
Author: Sandie Jones

Kate and Lauren are at their mother’s house for dinner to try to bridge the gap that has formed between them since their father’s passing. Then, there is a knock at the door that will change their lives forever.

It’s a woman, Jess, who claims to be their half-sister, with supposed DNA proof that their dad had an affair years ago.

Kate, who is waiting to find out whether she is pregnant after years of IVF treatments, is totally floored by this announcement and is having none of it. Lauren doesn’t seem as surprised as the rest of them, and this makes Kate wonder why.

Lauren lends an ear to Jess’ questions about their father and tries to add what she knows to the mystery, but she is distracted by her three children and abusive husband, Simon. To top it off, she bumps into her ex, for whom she still has feelings, and conversations about their past are bringing up new questions Lauren has for her mother Rose.

Kate has suspicions about Jess, but Lauren and Rose aren’t listening. When she decides to investigate it for herself, the revelations might tear them all apart.

Who exactly is this woman who claims to be their sister? And do you really know your own family?

Title: “The Selection”
Author: Kiera Cass
Reading Level: Young Adult

Before the Prince of Illea can be crowned, he must find a woman to be his Queen. To ensure a woman from Illea is chosen, the crown created the Selection.

The Selection is a competition in which 35 women, one from each district of Illea, compete for the Prince. The one to win his heart will also win the crown.

For America Singer, applying for the Selection was just to please her mother. She has every intention of marrying her best friend, Aspen.

She is selected, however, to represent Carolina in the competition. Suddenly, she is whisked away to the palace and is forced to go on dates with Prince Maxon.

However, Maxon isn’t as bland and quiet as he seemed on TV.

This is one of the best-selling young adult romance books. Readers will enjoy the dynamic between America and Maxon. Their relationship will make you laugh and cry.

The library has the entire Selection series in the library and digitally on HOOPLA and Libby.
