Lady Tigers improve to 17-2 with wins over Florence, Fairview

The sixth-ranked Hartselle Lady Tigers improved their winning streak to 15 games with wins over Fairview and Florence this past week.  

Hartselle 55, Florence 30 

The Lady Tigers hit five three-pointers in the first quarter to jump out to a 22-8 lead. Hailey Holshouser and Maggie McCleskey each hit two, while Lillyanna Cartee hit the final one of the quarter. 

Hartselle continued hot-shooting from behind the three-point line, connecting on three more in the second quarter. McCleskey hit her third to open the quarter, and Masyn Marchbanks and Cartee added the other two. 

The Lady Tigers took a 35-18 lead into halftime. 

The story of the third quarter was the Hartselle defense. They held Florence to three points. Alyssa McMinemon had two blocks and a steal to help lead the defense. 

The Lady Tigers hit two more three-pointers, extending their lead to 55-21, going to the fourth quarter. Florence scored nine points in the fourth to make the final score 55-30. 

Marchbanks finished with 18 points and eight steals to lead Hartselle (17-2). McCleskey hit four three-pointers and finished with 12 points, while Cartee had 11 points and six rebounds. Holshouser added eight points. 

Hartselle 61, Fairview 44 

The Lady Aggies hit three three-pointers in the first quarter on their way to a 15-10 lead after the first eight minutes. 

The Lady Tigers opened the quarter on a 10-4 run that included back-to-back threes by Marchbanks to grab a 20-19 lead. Following a Hartselle timeout, McCleskey drained a three-pointer to extend the lead to 23-19.  

After a Fairview three-pointer, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Aggies 13-4 over the final 3:41 of the second quarter to grab a 36-26 halftime lead.  

Marchbanks had 14 to lead Hartselle in the quarter, while McCleskey had six. 

A Marchbanks’ three ignited a 7-2 run to start the third that extended the lead to 43-28. Holshouser scored five of the final six Lady Tigers’ points of the quarter for a lead of 49-35 going to the fourth. 

Hartselle outscored the Lady Aggies 12-9 in the fourth to secure the 17-point victory. 

Marchbanks finished with 21 points, five rebounds, and five steals to lead Hartselle (16-2). Cartee finished with a double-double, 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Holshouser added 13.
