Falkville police arrest Hartselle man on rape charges

A Hartselle man was arrested and charged with rape in the second degree after a Falkville police officer discovered him in a vehicle with an underage girl.

Falkville Police Chief Aaron Burgess said Officer Markus Solomon came upon a suspicious vehicle at Robinson Creek and Appleton roads in Falkville about 1 a.m. Oct. 28. The owner of the vehicle, Weston Bryant Lang, 24, of Hartselle, was inside with a minor.

A person commits the crime of rape in the second degree if, being 16 years old or older, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex less than 16 and more than 12 years old; provided he or she is at least two years older than the member of the opposite sex. Rape in the second degree is a Class B felony.

Burgess said in order to protect the identity of the female, her age cannot be released.

Lang was booked into Morgan County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
