Hartselle volleyball starts season with five wins

The Hartselle Tigers volleyball team started the 2020 season with five wins in seven matches. 

The Tigers began the season Thursday with a sweep of Addison and Carbon Hill. They defeated Addison 25-21 and 25-14 and Carbon Hill 25-13 and 25-6. 

Hailey Holshouser led the way with 15 kills and six digs, while Lillyanna Cartee added 12 kills and 15 digs. Grace Tapscott had 37 assists and five aces in the two matches. 

Juanita Boddie Tournament 

The Tigers traveled to Hoover Friday for the two-day Juanita Boddie Tournament. The field included nine of the top 10 ranked teams in Class 7A and Class 6A. 

In pool play, Hartselle defeated 6A Gulf Shores 25-9 and 25-8) and 7A Auburn 25-23 and 25-21 but fell to 7A No. 5 Thompson 25-15 and 25-22. 

The Tigers opened Gold Bracket play with a win over 7A Oak Mountain 26-24 and 26-24 in the round of 16. Hartselle fell in the quarterfinals to 7A No. 2 in three sets – 25-23, 14-25, and 8-15. 

Upcoming Matches 

Hartselle traveled to 6A No. 5 Pelham Aug. 25 and will host Cullman and Austin August 27 starting at 4:30 pm.
