The Food Bank of North Alabama, according to executive director Shirley Schofield, is in need of donations with which to serve the many people who are currently in need of food supplies.   

Some of the food items needed right now are canned meats, such as chicken and tuna; canned vegetables; peanut butter; macaroni and cheese; and breakfast bars. The food back also needs paper towels, bath tissue, diapers and hand wipes.   

The Food Bank also accepts monetary donations.  

Anyone wishing to make a donation of money or other listed items can call 256-539-2256.  

The food bank distributes food donations to relief organizations throughout the 11 counties it serves. All support will be greatly appreciated.  

Other groups are also helping families in need. 

Fairview–The Grace Place Church recently sponsored a food pantry drive and is helping needy families during this special time. Danielle Hayes is in charge of the food pantry.  

The Missions Committee, Rhona Summerford, Carolyn Besnyl and Bill Lewis at McKendree United Methodist Church have been helping a needy family in their area.  

A lot of the local churches are helping needy families.  

In need of prayers 

Brother Wayne and Sharon Nisly are in need of our prayers this week. Their son Timothy passed away April 5 at the age of 10 months and 9 days. He was in the hospital the entire time, and the family appreciates all of the prayers and concern for their son.  

Prayers are also requested this week for former Massey resident, Pat Fitzgerald, who is critically ill at the Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto, which is in South Haven Mississippi. Pat grew up on the West Pike, now Highway, 55 at the Crutcher Pool. Pat was president of his Falkville High School Class of 1953. He is an active member of the Cedar Plains Christian Church.   

Area Easter Activities  

April 14, Phyllis Johnson’s family met at Gloria Penns, and also attending were Valerie Williamson and Hoyt Johnson of the Massey community and Eugene and Nancy Speegle of the New Center community. Everyone enjoyed singing hymns, which were led by the nurse/social worker. Everyone enjoyed the songs and the fellowship.  

Chris and DeAnn Warnick and Courtney and Eli enjoyed a special Easter lunch with Jan and James Stephens.  

Terry Boyd, Randy Besnyl and Carolyn Besnyl enjoyed having their family meal April 13 at Carolyn’s home in the Massey community.
