Morgan Co. Tournament: Hartselle girls, Brewer boys advance with blowout wins

FALKVILLE – Hartselle dominated the first half as they jumped out to a 39-16 lead at halftime in their 60-38 win over Danville. They connected on eight three-pointers to help build the lead.

Masyn Marchbanks, Lillyanna Cartee, and Hailey Holshouser combined for 51 of the Lady Tigers’ points.

Marchbanks finished the game with 22 points, seven steals, and three assists, while Cartee added 19 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Holshouser had 10 points and four rebounds.

Hartselle started the game by doubling up Danville 16-8 following the first quarter. They kept the pressure on in the second as they outscored the Lady Hawks 23-8.

Marchbanks hit five three-pointers in the first half as she scored 18 of her game-high 22 points. Cartee had 10 of her 19 in the second half.

Danville was led by Emma Broadfoot’s 12 points and Blayne Godfrey’s 10 points.

Hartselle advances to the semi-finals for a match-up with the top seed Falkville on Thursday at 6:30 pm at Falkville High School.

Boys

Brewer 82, Falkville 43 – Connor Hall hit seven three-pointers on his way to a game-high 29 points to lead Brewer to an 82-43 blowout victory over Falkville. He also had seven rebounds and five steals.

The Patriots were hot from behind the three-point line as they knocked down 14 three-pointers in the game.

Brewer held a 22-16 lead after the first quarter when all but four points came from behind the arc. The Patriots held the Blue Devils to four points in the second quarter as they pulled away by score 24 points. They lead 46-20 at halftime.

The Patriots scored a season-high 29 points in the third quarter on their way to extending their lead to 75-37 heading into the fourth quarter.

Kris Bramlett scored 16 for Brewer while Matt Kempson added 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Mann McLemore finished with nine points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

Falkville was led by Wyatt Tomlin, who scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Avery Miller had nine points and seven rebounds. Jordan Greenfield finished with nine points.

Brewer advances to the semi-finals to play top-seeded Hartselle at 7:45 pm.
