By Sam Roberts, For the Enquirer

Hartselle returned from the Christmas break Friday to travel to Florence to take on the Falcons.
The seventh-ranked Lady Tigers got themselves in a hole early, as they trailed by a score of 16-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers had trouble gaining any momentum offensively through the following quarter, and Hartselle trailed 26-19 at the half.
The Tigers came out answering quickly in the third, as they reclaimed the considerable lead behind two three-point baskets from Hailey Holsousser and seven points from Mariah Taylor to lead 43-33.
Taylor stayed hot for Hartselle and kept the Tigers on top as she contributed another eight key points in the final quarter and led Hartselle to 56-48 victory with 18 points.
Holsousser managed to contribute 12.
Florence was led in scoring at 18 by Claire Williams.
Following the girls’ matchup, the Hartselle varsity boys were next up in the action. The game went back and forth throughout the first half, but Hartselle managed to secure a 26-14 lead to carry into the locker room at halftime.
The Tigers added on to their lead in the third, but Florence quickly struck back, outscoring Hartselle 17-11 in the final quarter and securing a 56-53 win.
Brody Peebles led Hartselle with 24 and was followed by Keondre Swoopes with 11 and Tad Sivley with 10.
