Hartselle churches mark holiday season

Falkville First United Methodist Church holds Cookie Walk

The Rev. Bill and Billie Smith and Phyllis Stinson baked cookies in the Falkville First United Methodist Church kitchen to share with Falkville residents in light of the holiday season. The Christmas cookies were bagged and carried door to door on East Main and Church Street and given to residents as they invited them to church. The Cookie Walk was held Dec. 15.McKendree UMC Activities

Cheslee Black, Bradley Moseley, Clint Sanford and Wyatt Sanford gave the Advent Story for the third Sunday before Christmas and conducted the candle lighting at McKendree United Methodist Church Dec. 16. The four candles symbolize hope, peace, joy and love.
Falkville Lions Club hosts party for children

Terry Napier, president, and Arthur Ray Summerford, vice president, of the Falkville Lions Club directed their Christmas project Dec. 15 at the fire station. Lions Club members and volunteers made cookies for area children, and gifts were also donated for the event. The activity was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Jimmie Walker was “Santa” for the traditional project.

Emmanuel Mennonite Church Christmas News

Residents of the Massey, Round Top, New Life, Lebanon and Fairview communities look forward to the Emmanuel Mennonite Church Choir caroling on the Sunday preceding Christmas each year. This season the group met Dec. 23 at 4 p.m. Traditionally they sing for patients at the Falkville Health Care Center and Summerford Nursing Home and Rehab. They also give out goodie bags.
Besnyl Family Holiday Activities
Tim Besnyl of West Covina, Calif., visited his mother, Carolyn Besnyl, and brother Randy Besnyl of the Massey community from Dec. 22-29.
Dec. 23, Tim attended McKendree United Methodist Church with Carolyn and Randy for the fourth Sunday of Advent service.
Terry Boyd hosted a Christmas Eve Besnyl party at her home in Decatur. Everyone enjoyed sandwiches, snacks and desserts, and gifts were exchanged. Tim’s gift to his family was a ticket for each member to go as a group to see the “Mary Poppins Returns” movie.
Piney Grove Christian Church Events
Piney Grove Christian Church’s children’s Christmas program was held Dec. 23. The Rev. Aaron Warnick directed the event.
Nov. 25, Piney Grove hosted an Appreciation morning worship service and lunch for EMTs, firefighters, dispatchers and policeman in the Falkville area.
Mt. Vernon Congregational Methodist Church Activities
The Rev. Glenn McCain and Joe and Bobbie Andrews conducted the Christmas program at Mt. Vernon Congregational Church.
On the first Advent Sunday, Dec. 7, Joe sang an original Christmas tune he wrote about himself and his wife. They read the Christmas story scriptures and sang carols. The congregation sang a carol, and the prayer for the blessing of the food preceded the fellowship meal.
