Funeral for Doris Summerford Anders Herring, 96, of Danville will be Sat., Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Sat., Sept. 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Herring died Mon., Sept. 14, 2015. She was born May 26, 1919, in Morgan County to “Newtie” Edward and “Clemmie” Patterson Summerford. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Lunie White Summerford; husbands, William Minter Anders and Judson Herring; sisters, Pernie Morris (James), Bernice Bailey (Grady), Barbara Jolly (J.D.), and Virgina Duncan (R.M.C. Jr.); brothers, Wallace Summerford (Opal) and Sheats Summerford (Sarah); and stepson, Lane Herring.
She was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, stepmother and aunt. She was a housewife, cook, seamstress, quilt maker, vegetable and flower gardener, and farm worker. She sang and played piano and guitar and served as church pianist, she was a tax collector clerk and served as treasurer of Evergreen Cemetery. She was a life- long member of the Massey Community and was a member of Evergreen Methodist Church from the time she joined in 1932 at age 13 until the church was closed at the end of 2004.
She is survived by three sons, Larry Anders (Nancy), Theron Anders (B.B.) and Ferrell Anders (Pauline); a step-son, Sherman Herring (Aurora); two step-daughters, Frieda Jones (Jimmy) and Opal Herring (Lane); seven grandchildren, Stephanie Anders, Corey Anders, Jennifer Anders, Laura Lee (Bryan), Will Anders (Robin), Zeke Anders and Kelilah Anders; six step-grandchildren, Laura Kruck, Melissa Atterberry, Anne Katherine Alexander, Eloise Atterberry, Andrew Kruck and Madeline Kruck; four great-grandchildren, Anders Lee, William Lee, Charlie Anders and Liddy Anders; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Thompson, Jeff Thompson, Jack Arnold, Roland Fontenot, Jim Walker and John S. Bryant.
