Decatur Morgan Hospital invites everyone out Sat., June 6, to celebrate their 100-Year Birthday Celebration with a block party.

Taking it to the Streets block party will take place at the Founders Park Daikin Amphitheater in downtown Decatur. The event will take place from 3 until 10 p.m. The event will include attractions for both kids and adults.

Admission is free and is their way of saying thanks for the continued and past support of Decatur Morgan Hospital.

From the works and efforts of the Ladies of the Benevolent Society during the late 1880s, Decatur General opened in 1915. Parkway Medical Center came about from Dr. W.P. Baugh’s medical practice, which later became Baugh Wiley Smith Hospital, which eventually became Parkway Medical Center in 1974. In 2012, the two hospitals became Decatur Morgan Hospital under Huntsville Hospital Health System.

Music and entertainment will include Replay the Band at 3 p.m., The Wheelers at 4:15 p.m., Al Keith Bank at 5:30 p.m., The Natchez Trace Band at 6:45 p.m. and 7 Bridges at 8:15 p.m.

Children’s activities will include train rides, Golf Challenger, Froggy Fly Fling, Giraffe Kiddie Striker, bean bag toss, sidewalk chalk and face painting.

A classic car cruise in will also be part of the evening’s events.

Merchants on Bank Street and 2nd Avenue will have special hours and some will be offering special discounts. Food and beverages will be available from downtown restaurants and other vendors.

The Morgan County Archives will have special hospital displays showcasing medical items that span the decades being celebrated.

Crowd-friendly pets are also welcome.

The event is free, however, food, beverages, merchandise and caricature/face painting will be sold during the event.

Attendees should bring blankets and chairs for lawn seating at the amphitheater.
