Cyclist flown to hospital after being hit by car
A 50-year-old bicycle rider was flown to Huntsville Hospital Monday night after he was struck by a car at the intersection of Main and Morrow streets.
John Emmitt Sharpley, 50, of 603 Brewer St. SE. was riding a bicycle at the intersection while Harry W. Houston, 84, of Hartselle was driving a Buick Lucerne. The two collided at the intersections of Main and Morrow streets at 8:59 p.m.
Lt. Justin Barley, public information officer for the the Hartselle Police Department, said Sharpley had been moved to a regular room and is in stable condition.
The accident remains under investigation, but charges against the driver are not expected at this time, according to Barley.
