July 22, 1960-Headquarters of the Hartselle Witness for Christ Crusade were opened this morning in the lobby of the municipal building. Judy Newman will serve as secretary at the headquarters.
July 22, 1960-The Hartselle Cemetery Association is asking lot owners to pay their dues. Mrs. L. C. Pattillo is the group’s treasurer.
July 22, 1960-Recruits James E. Wallace, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wallace, and Bennie F. Bynum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jodie Bynum, are presently assigned to Company C, 7th Battalion, 2nd Training Regiment, of the U.S. Army Training Center, Infantry, at Ft. Jackson, S.C.
July 23, 1960-Rev. Junior Hill began a revival at Lebanon Baptist Church tonight. The pastor is Rev. Douglas Dexter.
July 23, 1960-The Morgan County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting today at the MCHS auditorium. Jo Anne Elliott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Elliott of Decatur, was named Morgan County Maid of Cotton.
July 23, 1960-Mrs. Paul Hodges and Mrs. W. M. Patterson entertained with a luncheon at the All Steak Café in Cullman today honoring Sarah Ann Thompson whose marriage to Billy Evans will be an event of August 20.
July 24, 1960-The Layman’s Witness for Christ Crusade began here tonight. Charles Penn is in charge of publicity. It will continue through the end of the 31st.
July 24, 1960-The Morgan County Board of Education has named trustees for each county school. In Hartselle, the designated trustees are Dr. Harold Blanton, Rev. W. P. Maxwell, and E. E. Maddox, MCHS; Howard Fowler, T. B. Strickland Jr., and James H. Stephenson, Hartselle Elementary; and Clyde Rice and Arthur Bean, Crestline.
July 25, 1960-Hartselle Florist is the successor to Baker’s Flower Shop. Baker’s has been bought out by Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McCaig and Mrs. McCaig’s sister, Mrs. Mildred Crittenden.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baker, owner-operators for the past five years, are retiring from this field.
July 25, 1960-The Morgan County Gun Club’s new skeet field has opened shooting facilities on the club range at the W. E. Moorehead farm on Burleson Mountain, near Indian Hills Golf Club. Dr. H. L. Blanton of Hartselle is the club president. Persons interested in membership should contact Dr. Blanton.
July 25, 1960-Mrs. M. G. Vest left Birmingham by plane today bound for New York on the first leg of her trip to Naples, Italy. At her destination, she will visit her daughter, Mrs. Ben Scarbrough, Col. Scarbrough, and children.
July 26, 1960-L. N. Whitman of the Hartselle Cemetery Association appeared before the city council tonight to request additional property for the city’s cemetery, which is rapidly becoming full.
July 27, 1960-Tommy Putman underwent heart surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, today. The operation lasted 10 hours. Prospects for Tommy’s recovery are uncertain at present.
July 28, 1960-Mr. and Mrs. Bill Huie are expected to let the contract this week for the construction of a new modern-style residence with studio annexed to be built on Barkley Street at the corner of Day Avenue. The home will be on a lot 100×150 feet, which Huie purchased from the Sharpley heirs. Huie is a nationally known author and magazine writer.
July 28, 1960-Robert Mayfield has been honorably discharged from the Navy and is now at home with his parents on Hartselle 3.
July 28, 1960-Citizens Bank has just installed a new bank of safety deposit boxes in their vault to meet the increasing demand and satisfy a long waiting list. Cashier Horace W. Broom said plenty of space is available for the installation of more boxes when the need arises.
