Earl Morris to be honored

Decatur High Gym to be named after legendary coach
DECATUR – Legendary basketball head coach Earl Morris will be honored at 2 p.m., Sunday, at a ceremony in Decatur High School Gymnasium, where the gym will be renamed Earl Morris Gymnasium.
A committee of former players have organized the formal ceremony. Friends, former players and Morgan County Basketball fans are invited to attend.
Morris coached 22 years with the Red Raiders. He led his team to eight state playoff appearances, four Final Four apperances and one state championship. His state championship with Decatur came in 1970.
His win total with the Decatur High School basketball team is 432.
Prior to his tenure with Decatur High School, Morris coached at Danville High School and moved from there to Austinville High School.
While at Austinville, Morris won three Alabama State Championships in 1957, 1958 and 1959.
Morris retired from coaching in 1984 and worked eight years for Morgan County Economic Development.
He got the itch to coach again in 1992 and found his way to A.P. Brewer High School.
For his career, Morris has coached his team to 590 wins.
