Lady Tigers handle Lady Devils

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers combined strong hitting and pitching to defeat Lawrence County High School 3-1 Monday afternoon and pick up their third win in a row. They’re now 14-10 on the season and 0-2 in area games.
Meaghan Gray was the winning pitcher. She scattered five hits over seven innings while giving up a single run and striking out five batters.
She worked her way out of a bases loaded jam in the third inning by striking out one batter and getting another one to hit a ground ball back to the mound.
Five Lady Tigers logged hits in the contest. Sara Lang blasted a double and single, Chandler Orr and Hayden Watts each had a pair of singles and an RBI, Audrey McClanahan doubled and Ashley Bonner singled.
Hartselle 6, East Lawrence 0
Hartselle ‘s Lady Tigers shut out East Lawrence 6-0 in the opening round of pool play in the Hartselle Invitational Softball Tournament Friday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers went up 1-0 in the first inning, scored two more runs in the second and added three runs in the fifth.
Breanna Riley didn’t allow a hit or run in the five-inning contest. She stuck out five.
Audrey McClanahan and Sara Lang each doubled and Shelby Hoff and Chandler Orr each had an RBI single.
Hartselle 6, Priceville 3
The Lady Tigers prevailed over Priceville 6-3 in a second pool play game Friday night.
Anna Hall had a double and a single, Michel Fields and Hoff each doubled and McClanahan singled.
Riley was credited with the win. She came on in relief with two out in the third inning and finished the four-inning game with four strikeouts and a walk. Meaghan Gray was the starter.
Gray allowed three runs on two hits while striking out three.
Hartselle 7, Austin 0
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers grabbed an early lead and coasted to a 7-0 win over Austin’s Lady Black Bears on the road Mar. 24. The win was the team’s 11th against 10 losses.
Hitters were Ashley Bonner with a double and a single and three RBIs, Kimmie Minor with a two-RBI single and a double, Chandler Orr and Anna Hall each with an RBI single and Audrey McClanahan, Sara Lang and Michel Fields each with a single.
Meaghan Gray pitched all seven innings and was credited with her fourth win against three losses. She allowed only four hits while striking out eight and walking two.
