A new youth dormitory at Hartselle’s historic tabernacle and camp meeting grounds was dedicated and formally named in honor of Harry and Margaret Ann Puckett on Sunday afternoon. Open house was also observed from 4 to 6 p.m.
Cain, pastor of Lighthouse Church in Tuscaloosa, said the dormitory is capable of lodging up to 100 people. It has separate living quarters for both boys and girls and a meeting room that will seat about 200.
He singled out two men for the work they did on the dormitory. Robert Slack was recognized as the building contractor and Jimmy Yarbrough was thanked for the role he played as construction supervisor.
He also recognized Harry and Margaret Ann Puckett for their leadership and hard work on behalf of the camp meeting.
Both served for 16 years as president and dining hall supervisor, respectively.
Margaret Ann accepted a large engraved plaque to commemorate the naming of the building in honor of she and her husband, who was ill and unable to attend.
Several members of the audience expressed their thanks to the couple for the positive influence they had on their lives as camp meeting attendees.
Cain said Margaret Ann was the reason the camp’s food was the best in America and Harry always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to keep the boys at camp in line.
Yarbrough, who serves as treasurer of the Camp Meeting Association, said $100,000 was borrowed to complete the dormitory, which is valued at more than $300,000.
