Danville rallies past Falkville

DANVILLE - Cole Veazy capped a wild seventh-inning rally with a game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning as Danville beat Falkville 9-8 Monday afternoon to improve to 7-2 overall.
Danville scored six times in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Blue Devils.
Jesse Posey walked and Veazy singled with the game-winner on a 1-2 pitch to send the Hawks to the win.
Danville was missing two of its top hitters who were serving suspensions for violating team rules.
Jacob Young led the Hawks with three RBIs. He had the game’s only home run.
Falkville loaded the bases in the top of the first inning and scored twice off Roger Smith to take an early lead.
Danville tied the game with two runs in the bottom half of the inning off Joseph Lacy.
Cole Veazy and Parker Hogan led off with singles to start the Hawks’ inning. Following a Dakota Wilson sacrifice bunt, Smith ground out to second to score Veazy.
Hogan scored on a passed ball for the second run.
Falkville went back in front 3-2 with a run in the top of the second inning with three hits off Smith.
The Blue Devils’ Brye Hill singled and Lacy followed with a base hit through the gap. Mayer reached on an infield single deep in the hole at short to score Hill.
Danville put two runners on in the third inning with one out, but Falkville got out of the inning with a double play.
Zach Moore singled in a run in the top of the fourth to add to the Blue Devils’ lead.
Young hit a solo shot that cleared the fence near the 340-foot mark in left field to trim the Falkville lead to 4-3.
Hogan replaced Smith on the mound in the fifth inning and retired the next six hitters.
Falkville ended Hogan’s run when Mayer doubled up the gap in left-center.
Hogan hit Cody Kelsoe with a pitch and walked Smith with one out in the inning. Chad Kirkpatrick reached on an error that scored Trevor Mayer.
Hill followed with an RBI single. Nate Austill and Lacy both followed with singles to drive in another run to put the Blue Devils in front 8-3.
Danville had four hits in the bottom half of the seventh inning to rally for the win with the help of three errors.
Jacob Fields drove in a run with an infield single and Matthew Vest followed with another infield hit to load the bases with two outs.
Young drove a 1-1 pitch to the fence to score two more runs, tying the game at 8-8.
