Hawks secure spot in Sweet 16 with win over Childersburg

The Danville Hawks (18-8) secured a spot in the Sweet 16 with a 57-39 win over visiting Childersburg in sub-regional play last Saturday.

The Hawks will face Winfield (21-10) at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in the 3A Northwest Regional at Wallace State. Danville last played in the Northwest Regional in 2021, when they faced Winfield in the finals.

The Hawks led 16-11 after the first quarter and 28-16 at the half before outscoring Childersburg 29-13 in the second half.

AJ Holladay finished with a game-high 27 points, including 19 in the first half, to lead Danville. Ty Bailey added 13 points.

Seneca Shealey led Childersburg with 15 points, while Jakorrion Johnson added 13.

Danville 60, Colbert County 51
Earlier in the week, Danville won the 3A Area 14 Tournament with a 60-51 win over Colbert County. Ty Bailey finished with 15 points to lead the Hawks. Huntley Segars had 14 points, while AJ Holladay added 13 points and Ki Boyd scored 11.
