FALKVILLE- The West Morgan Rebels earned their third Morgan County Tournament title in a row tonight over Priceville 57-54.

Parker Henson led the Rebels offensively with 19 points. Keandre Swopes had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. Gammon Morgan had 8 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Grant Workman had 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals.
Luke Mason led the Bulldogs in scoring with 19 points. Mason also had 8 rebounds, and 3 assists and steals. Noah Fortner had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Kyle Haynes added 4 rebounds and 2 assists and steals, and Marc Mclendon had 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Parker Gwin had 10 points.

West Morgan’s Swopes and Priceville’s Haynes and Mason were named to the Morgan County Basketball All-Tournament team. Senior Rebel Workman earned the J.C. Pettey/ Wayne Bowling MVP Award.

Workman was last year’s MVP and a part of the title team for the third year now, but he said this year was definitely special.

“This tournament was different because I knew it would be the last time I would play in this Morgan County stage against these guys I’ve played for a while,” Workman said. “It was also special because there are four of us seniors, and most of us have played together since elementary school.”

Workman said he had felt confident in their success this season.

“Coach [Sam] Brown is a good coach, and he really pushed us,” Workman said. “We knew a ‘three-peat’ was a possibility.”

Brown earned his tenth title overall and his second title at West Morgan with the win, but Brown hasn’t gotten used to it yet.

“It never gets old,” Brown said. “This year was different from last year because the guys were getting used to my system. Your first year with a program, you feel like you have borrowed players, but now I feel like they are my guys.”

Brown said their free throw misses made for a very exciting fourth quarter.

“Our seniors led us very well, but our inability to hit free throws hurt us,” Brown said. “Luckily we were able to hang in there and pull it out.”

Others named to the All-Tournament team include Kasen Wallace of Hartselle and Kolton Bramlett of Brewer.
