Drugs found in Hartselle man’s car during stop

Two Hartselle men are in custody after officers found drugs in their car during a stop for a traffic violation April 12.

The driver, Corey Van Hart, 34, of 2208 Indian Hills Road #A,was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, multiple lanes/improper lane change and driving while revoked. Hart was transported to the Decatur City Jail and was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $4,000 bond.

The passenger, Jeffrey Gilbert Johns, 51, of 112 Hwy. 36, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana second degree. Johns was transported to the Decatur City and was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $3,500 bond.

On April 12, Decatur Police officers Keith Rutherford and Jonathan Macklin initiated a vehicle stop in the parking lot of Wheeler Estates at 134 McEntire Lane in Decatur after observing a moving violation.

Officers determined that Hart had a revoked driver’s license.

During an investigation, they also located a quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug sale and drug use paraphernalia in the vehicle.
