Top 5A team knocks out Hartselle

Jackson, however, would add two more scores for the Trojans, one on a one-yard run and the other on a 40-yard shuffle pass from Ware in the fourth quarter.

A 56-yard Slayton run set up D’Andre Mack’s four-yard touchdown run, the final touchdown of the season.

Slayton finished with 130 yards on 13 carries with one touchdown in his final game as a Hartselle Tiger. Aldridge was also 10-for-20 for 81 yards with a touchdown but two interceptions.

Preston Adams was the leading receiver for the Tigers with 49 yards on five receptions.

Godsey said this year’s senior class, which finished their careers with a 45-10 record in grades 9-12, was the epitome of what he wants in a football program.

“They’re what Hartselle football is all about – toughness, competitors,” Godsey said. “That’s what I want us to be about are guys like them, Deacon, Blake, Blair Sittason, Thomas Fleischman, just go down the list – that whole senior class. That’s what I want Hartselle football to be about.”
