Brewer girls still unbeaten, Bulldogs sweep Patriot boys

Brewer’s girls basketball team and Priceville’s boys basketball team proved just why they are in the top 10 of the state rankings Friday night.

Class 5A No. 2 Lady Patriots cruised to a 90-61 win in the girls game while Class 4A No. 10 Bulldogs pulled away to a 57-45 win in the boys game.

In the girls game, Brewer was led by Courtney Oldacre who scored 24 points including six 3-pointers. The Patriots had 10 from behind the arc for the game.

Riley Northway added 16 points followed by Malerie Drinkard with 13 points. Danielle Dunn and Hannah Landers scored 9 points each while Rheagan Harvel and Savannah Flack scored 8 points each.

In the boys game, Brewer withstood an early second quarter run to take a halftime lead and then extended that advantage in the fourth quarter due to good free throw shooting down the stretch. Shortly before halftime with PHS leading 21-19.

Brewer was called for a foul. The Patriot player argued about the call and also got a technical. Priceville made 3 of the 4 free throws to make the advantage 24-19 at the break.

In the second half, Priceville maintained control of the lead by as many as 12. Brewer chipped away at the lead, cutting it to 49-43 with the ball and four mintues to play.

However, Priceville dialed up a good defense and trapped the Patriot player in the corner, forcing a turnover.

On the next possession, Tyler Hinkle sprinted down the lane for a layup and then put the game away at the free throw line.

John Hawkins and Matt Teague led Priceville with 14 points each while Hayden Prentice scored 6.

Jeff David had 12 for Brewer while Kyle Speegle added 10.
