May 2, 1962—The Hartselle Business and Professional Women’s Club has received its charter. Mrs. Dorothy Puckett of the Enquirer staff is serving as the first president. Other officers include Lola Mae Betterton and Mary Harvel. Jack Hoffhaus, Enquirer publisher and president of the Chamber of Commerce, has issued a formal welcome to the BPW group as the newest addition to Hartselle’s roster of civic clubs.

May 3, 1962–Morgan County sheriff’s deputies arrested three men tonight on charges of using profane language.

May 3, 1962—Travis Hardwick is the recipient of the coveted James (Horseshoe) Robinson Award, presented annually to the most outstanding Air Force ROTC cadet at Bama. Governor John Patterson gave the honor to him during governor’s day exercises on the quad.

May 3, 1962—One of Morgan County’s most beloved residents, Tennis Sparkman, is reported to be ill at his home in Decatur. He is a founding member of the Morgan County Singing Convention.

May 3, 1962—Maxine Johnson, an FSC student, has been selected for membership in the education honorary, Kappa Delta Pi.

May 4, 1962—A Hartselle man, Monroe Mason, who works at Gordon’s Trucking in Decatur, was severely injured on the job this afternoon when a wheel whose surrounding tire he was repairing popped out, hitting him squarely in the head. Mr. Mason has lost one eye and whether the other can be saved or not is doubtful.

May 4, 1962—The Morgan County Sportsmen’s and Conservation Association met tonight at Flint school.

May 5, 1962—Richard Phillips, who lives at 504 Tanner Drive, was well enough to go home from the hospital today.

May 6, 1962—Opal Jean Williams, an honor student at Morgan County Training School, has won the county 4-H Club dairy food contest. Her faculty sponsor is Miss Dessie L. Davis.

May 6, 1962—Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Will Brown at Moss Chapel church this afternoon. In addition to her husband, her survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Bodley, and a son, W. E. Brown, Jr., both of Hartselle 1.

May 7, 1962—Pvt. Charles Holmes, son of Mrs. Coralee Holmes, Falkville 1, is currently undergoing Army basic training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.
