The Wings of Thunder Charity Bike Run, planned for May 19 at the Rountree Field in Hartselle, will benefit more than 1,700 children in the Morgan County community with special needs. Registration for the event is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with all proceeds and donations received benefiting The Morgan County SNAP (Special Needs Accessible Playground).
The will feature a bike route, door prizes, bike games, food, music and a bike and car show. All donations received at the event are tax deductible and 100 percent benefit Morgan County SNAP.
There are more than 1,700 physically challenged children in Morgan County alone who don’t have a place to play. The Morgan County SNAP (Special Needs Accessible Playground) project is planning to change that by creating the premier “boundless” playground in the state. Scheduled to open in October, the playground will serve as a model for other boundless playgrounds across the southeast.
Wings of Thunder is proud to assist The Morgan County SNAP in rallying regional support in an effort to establish this boundless playground, which is safe, handicap accessible and usable for special needs children in Morgan County and the surrounding area. Through the use of equipment, ramps and walkways conforming to requirements of the American Disabilities Act, no child with special needs will be forced to sit on the sidelines because of lack of equipment accessibility or usability.
The most enjoyable part of this playground will be a water park feature called the Splash Pad. The Splash Pad consists of several different pieces of playground equipment all utilizing water. The Splash Pad includes equipment like the Aqua Arch, Water Cycle and the Spin N’ Spray Elephant.
The playground will be constructed in Hartselle at 406 Nance Ford Road, adjacent to the Sparkman Civic Center in the Sparkman Park complex.The location is centrally positioned and easily accessible by the entire Morgan County community.
