Hartselle's Dixie Girls Softball season will kick off on Saturday, April 8, with 351 players competing on 30 teams in five divisions, according to league president Brian Hicks.
"The numbers are pretty close to what they were last year with some divisions being up a few and some down a few" Hicks said. "On average, we've had 325 to 350 girls sign up to play over the past three or four years.
"The players are practicing and getting ready to play. We expect to have an exciting year."
The league's opening ceremony will be conducted at the Grady and Margie Long Softball Complex at 10 a.m.
A public address announcer will introduce each team and each player after which they will take a position in the outfield of the Belles Division playing field.
When all teams are positioned the National Anthem will be sung and distinguished guests will be called on to throw out the first pitch to a catcher representing each division.
Games are expected to begin about noon.
The Darlings will host a district tournament following the regular season.
Serving with Hicks as league officers are the following: Keith Long, vice president; Chris Stephenson, treasurer; Christy Fault, secretary; Marsha Holt, player agent; Kevin Holder, Sweeties commissioner; Beth Long, Darlings commissioner; Jeff Roberts, Angels commissioner; Paula Hicks, Ponytails commissioner; and Pam Gray, Belles commissioner.
