The game started with West Point receiving and they got a 26-yard return, stopped by a tackle by Joseph Burton. Miles Loosier and Rodney Childs tackled successfully but could not stop a West Point touchdown by quarterback Tyler Sullins with 8:29 left in the first quarter.
Brewer returned the next kickoff 17 yards but could not advance the ball much further. West Point had its turn, but it also could not complete the first down needed, and the teams spent most of the first quarter exchanging punts.
West Point made a 19-yard pass from Sullins to Gray, but the Brewer defense stiffened and got the ball back.
When Brewer punted the ball back to West Point, a personal foul occurred. At first, Brewer was allowed a first-and-10 but then the officials changed their minds and the ball was given back to West Point.
West Point threw a pass on its fourth down and Brewer's Zach Graham broke it up. Even despite this impressive individual play, West Point was still able to score a touchdown on a 6-yard pass from Sullins to Nick Adamson. The score came with 20 seconds left in the first half and the extra point was successful.
After the following kickoff, Rodney Childs caught a long pass and ran down the field into the end zone. The cannon fired victoriously and the Brewer fans thought it was a touchdown, but Childs was ruled out at the 1-yard line and the clock expired with West Point holding a 14-0 lead.
Brewer returned the opening kickoff 20 yards but fumbled soon after. West Point grabbed the ball and scored another touchdown when running back Justin Brummett ran the ball in from four yards out.
West Point took advantage of an interception at 4:03 to score on a 50-yard run by Matthew Pilotte with 3:52 remaining in the third quarter.
The biggest play in the first part of the last quarter was when Brewer's Ben Estes recovered a West Point fumble, but the Patriots were not able to capitalize. Neither team was able to score in the fourth quarter, a period that saw flags flying on plays multiple times.
In the locker room, Brewer coach Billy Coleman apologized for getting frustrated, which in many fans' view was justified based on the officiating.
Brewer faces region opponent Walker on the road Friday.
