Thieves loot Murphy Oil again

For the fourth time in less than a year thieves have broken into Murphy Oil at Walmart and hauled away brand name cigarettes worth an estimated $1,900.

The latest burglary occurred Sept. 21 at 3 a.m. Entry was gain by breaking the glass out of a door. A similar break-in occurred on Sept. 5. A third burglary was reported on May 11 and the fourth occurred in December 2010.

Hartselle Police Investigator Lt. Justin Barley said surveillance video indicated that two persons took part in the robbery and the getaway car they used was similar to the one used in two of the three prior robberies.

He said Walmart officials gave reported a loss of approximately $15,000 as a result of the four burglaries.

The break-in is the subject of an ongoing investigation.
