The Hartselle High baseball team took a tough road trip last weekend to the Mobile area and suffered four losses in five games. Three of the losses were close and the Tigers received fine pitching performances in each one.
"All of our pitchers threw well," Tiger pitching coach Jerry Childers said.
"All we ask is that our pitchers give us a chance to win, and they did it even though we won only one game on the trip."
Russell County 3, Hartselle 0
Chris Russell went the distance, throwing six innings of six-hit ball, walking only one and striking out six.
He allowed only two earned runs as his record fell to 1-1 on the season.
Hunter Brasher connected for a single for Hartselle's lone hit
of the contest.
Russell County 11, Hartselle 2
Seth Watson took the loss, throwing four innings of five-hit ball and allowing six runs.
He walked two and struck out four as he fell to 1-1 this year. Steven Chop threw one inning and allowed three hits, three runs, walked one and struck out one batter.
Alex Agee finished up with two innings of one-hit ball, while striking out one.
At the plate, Justin Youngblood went three-for-three with a double and a run scored, while Justin Hargett was two-for-two with one run and one stolen base.
Ja'Cote Ward had a RBI double, while Kris Berry and Brasher had one single each.
Hartselle 13, Robertsdale 7
Zach Smith improved to 2-1 with a complete game performance. He allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out four in seven innings.
Leading the Tiger hitting attack was Youngblood with four hits and four runs scored, while driving in one run.
Chris Wiley had a RBI double and scored twice, while Ward had a RBI double.
Daxton Maze had two hits and scored twice, while Watson had two hits, drove in two and scored twice.
Hargett collected three hits, including a double and a triple, while driving in two runs.
Berry had two hits, scored once and laced a RBI double. Michael Scott had one hit and scored a run.
Fairhope 4, Hartselle 3
The Tigers lost in eight innings as Keith McCaghren went the distance allowing nine hits, two walks and struck out two. McCaghren slipped to 0-2 as a starter.
At the plate, Youngblood had one hit, scored twice and stole two bases, while Parker had one hit and one RBI.
Joe McClanahan had two hits, including a double and scored once.
Daphne 3, Hartselle 1
Andrew Reeves slipped to 2-1 with a complete game six-hit outing on the hill.
Reeves allowed only one earned run, struck out eight and walked none in seven innings of work.
The Tiger hitting attack was led by Wiley with two hits, while Watson had a double and scored once. McClanahan had a RBI single, while Hargett and Parker had one hit each.
The Tigers ended the trip with a 6-6 overall record this season.
