Sparkman Junior High PTO Officers would like to thank Bingo contributors for their donations for bingo that was hosted by PTO at Sparkman Jr. High Fall Festival.

Students learn from soldier's visit

Thank you so much for your recent coverage of the visit to Crestline's fifth grade by Sherry Barnes. You came on very short notice and we appreciated your accurate reporting. Sherry has already returned to Iraq.
Most children do not understand the privations our troops endure. Even seeing the desert conditions on TV does not jell with them. They are quite isolated from the horrific conditions under which our young men and women operate.
Listening to Sherry helped them realize some of the hardships. Remembering them by name each day helps, too. We now have 30 names on our "Heroes Board." We invite community members to send pictures and names of their loved ones and friends to Crestline Elementary School, c/o Fifth grade, 600 Crestline Drive, Hartselle, AL 35640. We remember each person daily.
Also, we are packing shoeboxes to be sent to the troops. In order to get there by Christmas, we must get them in the mail before Nov. 15. We would like to invite anyone who would like to contribute to this effort to drop off small, personal items to the front desk at Crestline.
Items most often requested are batteries (all sizes), heavy socks, lip balms, lotions, eye care products, individually wrapped snacks, hand-held games, dry soups, dried fruit, drink mixes, cold remedies, cough drops, disposable razors and magazines.
Each box will be shared with about six soldiers.
Many of us feel helpless. We know there are many soldiers from Hartselle and Morgan County who will be far away during the holidays. This is a way we can let them know their hometown not only cares, but also sends its love and support in a concrete way.
