Funeral for Hersley Chandler, 79, of Hartselle was Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Hartsell officiating.
Burial with military honors was in Herring Cemetery.
Mr. Chandler died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Limestone County to John Alvin Chandler and Myrtle Belle Towe Chandler. He was a salesman for the Harry J. Welchel Company.
He was in the Fourth Marines Division, having served during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroism in the Battle at Iwo Jima. Mr. Chandler attended the Westview Church of Christ in Hartselle.
He is survived by his wife, Vida Mae Chandler of Hartselle; one son, Donald W. Chandler of Hartselle; one daughter, Wanda Ferguson of Hartselle; three brothers, Oliver Chandler of Marietta, Ga., Roy A. Chandler of Decatur and Robert C. Chandler of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; two sisters, Brenda Armour of Decatur and Sandra Bond of Somerville; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Shaun Ferguson, Zach Ferguson, Steve Chandler, Roy Chandler, R. C. Chandler and Arthur Armour.
