Hartselle softball picks up three wins at Jag Classic

The Hartselle Tigers softball team improved to 12-6 after picking up five wins this past week. The Tigers had victories over 7A teams Hoover, Chelsea and Huntsville, along with wins over Mortimer Jordan and Calera. Their only loss was to 7A Hewitt-Trussville.

Hewitt-Trussville 3, Hartselle 2
The Tigers fell 3-2 to Hewitt-Trussville in the second round of bracket play at the Jag Classic. The Hartselle runs came on solo home runs by freshman Katie Norgard and sophomore Brityan Godfrey. Kaelyn Jones had a double.

Blayne Godfrey (9-4) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 10 in five innings.

Hartselle 4, Huntsville 0
Blayne Godfrey pitched a no-hitter to lead Hartselle to a 4-0 win over Huntsville at the Jag Classic. She struck out 13 while walking two.

Norgard had a solo home run, while Blayne Godfrey and Chloe Gray each added a hit and an RBI.

Hartselle 5, Calera 0
Blayne Godfrey pitched a complete game to lead Hartselle to a 5-0 win over Calera. She allowed two hits and struck out 13 in seven innings.

Jones had two hits, including a triple, and one RBI, while Brantley Drake added two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Brityan Godfrey had a hit and an RBI.

Hartselle 9, Chelsea 8
Blayne Godfrey had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI to lead Hartselle to a 9-8 comeback win over Chelsea. She pitched 1 ⅓ innings of relief, striking out three, to get the win.

Norgard had a solo home run, while Katie Gillott, Brityan Godfrey and Drake each added a hit and an RBI. Jones added two hits and a stolen base.

Hartselle 5, Mortimer Jordan 1
Hartselle scored five unanswered runs after Mortimer Jordan took a 1-0 lead to win 5-1 over the Lady Blue Devils.

Blayne Godfrey homered and had two RBI while pitching three innings of relief to pick up the win. She allowed one hit and struck out nine. Sarah Bowling started the game, allowing one run on four hits with one strikeout in four innings.

Brityan Godfrey had two hits, including a double, and two RBI, while Norgard had a home run.

Hartselle 3, Hoover 2
The Tigers picked up a 3-2 win over Hoover in 10 innings to start their week. Hartselle scored two in the second to take a 2-0 lead before Hoover scored runs in the bottom of the second and third to tie the game at 2-2.

Blayne Godfrey only hit of the game came in the top of the 10th when she launched a home run to left center to give Hartselle a 3-2 win. She also picked up the victory in the circle after working six innings of relief. She allowed three hits while striking out 10.

Bowling got the start, allowing two runs on six hits in four innings.

Brooklyn Stiles had two hits, a run scored and an RBI, while Drake had a hit and a run scored. Jones had two hits
