Are you a neighbor with compassion?

By Todd Barrier

Over the past few weeks, we have looked at the story of the Good Samaritan to answer the question, “What is a good neighbor?” So far, we have seen that a good neighbor doesn’t ignore someone in need, and a good neighbor doesn’t deny that someone is in need.

Our next measure of a good neighbor is something we all hope to have. Luke 10:33 says the Samaritan saw the man who had been hurt, and “he had compassion.”

To be a good neighbor means you have compassion for others. To be the kind of person who looks at everyone as a neighbor, we must have compassion. How can we be willing to help anyone we might come in contact with if we aren’t people of compassion?

Compassion helps us with the previous two qualities of a neighbor. If we are compassionate, we will never ignore or deny someone who needs help.

Are you a neighbor with compassion?
