At its regular meeting Dec. 14, the Hartselle City Council approved a resolution that will authorize an engineering agreement between the City of Hartselle and the Alabama Department of Transportation.  

Cain Park will be home to nearly 500 new houses on Lando Cain Road. City leaders said the project will “greatly improve the intersection,” and the work will be needed as the homes are built and the proposed MAPCO project moves forward.  

In other city business, after City of Hartselle municipal judge Ta’Kisha Gholston resigned from her position, the council appointed David Langston to fill the vacant position. Pending council approval of her contract, Gholston will start her career as Decatur’s new municipal court judge in January at a salary of $100,115. If approved, her contract will be a four-year appointment with an ending date of 2026. 

The council also acted on a recommendation from administration to approve the expending of America Rescue Plan funds to city employees. Each full-time employee received a one-time payment of $2,000, and each permanent part-time employee received a one-time payment of $1,000. 

In other business, the council also:  

• declared as surplus acreage owned by the city for the proposed MAPCO location at Lando Cain Road and Highway 36 East.  
• approved to amend employee training reimbursement policy to protect the city if funds are expended for training and the employee does not fulfill their agreement by remaining on the job for a specified time. 

• approved a resolution amending the city’s drug and alcohol policy.  
• authorized the mayor to sign a settlement agreement in an OPIOD class action suit.  
• approved an alcohol license application for Eatin’ in the Attic.  
• approved an alcohol license application for Andy’s Package Store.  
• declared several items from the Parks and Recreation Department as surplus.  

The council will meet for its next regular meeting Dec. 28 at 7 p.m.
