A committee of teachers, administrators and PTO representatives will help choose Barkley Bridge Elementary School's new principal.
On Monday, Principal Richard Gurley announced his plans to retire. He had been at BBES for seven years. Before coming to BBES, he worked for 12 years at West Morgan and 15 years in Eva.
"Right now, I don't have any concrete plans," Gurley said. "I just want to keep my options open."
While Gurley is moving on, Superintendent Dr. Lee Hartsell said the first step is to post the job and then a committee will make interview recommendations. The job will be posted through July 14.
"We're going to do what we have done in the past," Hartsell said. "We're going to form a five member committee with a representative from K-1, second-third and fourth-fifth, a representative from the rest of school personnel and a representative from the PTO. They will recommend two to four people to interview."
Interviews will be conducted July 15-17. Hartsell said he expects to have a recommendation back to the school board by July 21. Gurley's retirement will be effective Aug. 1.
Hartsell said Gurley will be missed.
"I'm proud to have had the opportunity to work with Richard Gurley for the last seven years," he said.
